Please know, that the Russian Federation is not always consistent in customs formalities in a way that it sometimes changes visa application procedures without giving any publicity to it. In such cases, last-minute visa applications could become problematic and very costly. Therefore, we advise you inform us on your trip details well in advance. Normally, foreign citizens require visas to enter Russian Federation. You get a Visa Invitation and then contact a Russian Consulate or the Consular Department of the Russian Embassy to apply for your visa. According to the entering purpose to the Russian Federation the foreigner shoud obtain diplomatic, official, ordinary or transit visa to Russia. Ordinary visa to Russia can be private, business, tourist, educational, labour or humanitarian.Private visa is valid for your stay in Russia for a term up to three month, business visa – up to one year, tourist visa – up to one month. Terms and price for issuing the visa at the Russian Consulate depends on the Consulate and sometimes on your citizenship. Usually the amount of the Consular fee is higher for quicker processing at the Consulate. Most reasonable fees are charged for visa applications made about three weeks before the date of your trip. To obtain a business visa, the following documents are required for application at the Consulate:
Should the Consulate wish to contact you, please state clearly your contact telephone number (office and after hours) in the application form. Visa can be single-entry, duble-entry and multy-entry and should containe the following information: surname, given name (written by latin and russian), date of birth, sex, citizenship, passport number, visa date, duration of visa, number of invitation, purpose of the trip, type of visa, data of inviting organization (or person). Visa duration can be extended during the stay in Russian Federation. Apart from a business visa, you may be required to present at the border check point a copy of your invitation from a Russian host organization. Visa processing time starts only after the Consulate has received all necessary documents. Please note, that drop-off day is not counted as a business day. If you apply by mail, please enclose a return self-addressed sufficiently stamped envelope and add one more day for processing. Payments must be made in cash, by money order or bank cheque to the Consulate. Personal cheques are not accepted.After you receive your visa, please check it for possible mistakes (passport number, date of birth, term of validity etc.) and, if necessary, return it to the Consulate for corrections. The Consulate will not be responsible for the mistakes, which were not brought to its attention before your departure. In some cases the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can send a special Telex instead of the Invitation letter to the Russian Consulate chosen by you. The Organizing Committee of the Conference will inform you about this. Under the Russian law all foreigners entering the territory of Russian Federation must be registered withing 3 days of arrival.
